A Look at the Book #134
by Jesse Abel
The Devotional
Papa “J” says
A good man has: Character, Promise, Opportunity, Humility, Purpose, Integrity and Stability; just a few of many good Attributes. National leaders without these qualities will make the peoples they lead – Homeless! Proverbs 14:28
There is that office where I used to work right after I gave up a small business that I was trying to get up and running after retiring from the Navy. But in this office everyone was a Dilbert, you know him if you look at comic strips. Everyone works in a cubicle and produces mounds of paper to be viewed by the quality control person. Then he or she produces another mound of paper in order for you to correct or update your work which never ever seems to leave the office to do any intended purpose. There are no temporal rewards for this type of labor! Oh, I did forget, there are those few dollars that will carry you and family through to the next payday. Most, if not all jobs, cubicle or otherwise are just temporal with minimal rewards. So what is a person to do? Hebrews 11:24-26. Moses chose to ignore the temporal riches of the world for the greater riches found in Christ. Hey! I know what your thinking! This bible stuff doesn't put bread on my table and I have to live for the here and now! Can I say to you friend, this is wrong thinking! God has an eternal plan for your life that includes taking care of your temporal needs while you follow His eternal plan. Matthew 6:25-34 These are the words of Jesus and Jesus never fails.
1 Corinthians
1 Corinthians 16:1-4 This chapter is a major shift from the previous thoughts of the apostle regarding the resurrection of the dead. But in reality chapter fifteen is the major shift from the rest of the book. Now once again Paul focuses on the needs of a healthy church. Something that the Corinthians have struggled with for a long time.
Both the church in Galatia and the Corinth church have struggled spiritually, we have learned that many recorded sins in Corinth has confused the people and challenged the leadership. Now Paul must continue to admonish the leadership to do the things that will bring blessing to the congregation and guess what, to sum things up. He starts with giving and the collection of money. This is our favorite subject, aye?
I often wonder why giving or tithing is such a hard doctrine for people to understand. There is not one passage in the entire Word of God that speaks of negative prosperity for those who participate in giving to God, Biblically. My guess is that people in general when it comes to biblical truth, will pick and choose what they wish to believe, thus what they choose becomes a lie. Matthew 5:18. Christ has fulfilled the law of living in this temporal world, the truth is in Him. Thus the real treasure in better off in heaven where the moth and rust cannot destroy. Matthew 6:19-21.
